Race For Life – Tuesday June 21

The annual Vernon BMX Race for Life will be held Tuesday June 21 with registration 5:45-6:30pm and racing at 7pm. The Race for Life is a fundraiser for cancer research at BC Children's Hospital.

Our track, along with the other ABA tracks in BC open the gates to everyone who would like to try racing and we donate all the funds collected to BC Children's Hospital.

Last year Vernon BMX raised $3,170 and the combined total of all 12 ABA tracks in BC was just over $31,000.

This year the goal is to raise $5,000.

The Race for Life started in 1981 after a 12 year old BMX racer, Todd Kingsbury, was diagnosed with Leukemia. At the time, 130 tracks got together to participate in the newly created Race for Life to support Todd. Todd did not win his battle with cancer but the Race for Life continues in his memory as a means for kids to help other kids dealing with illnesses.

Please invite your friends to join us for a race on Tuesday June 21 to show your support for the BC Children's Hospital. All they need is a safe bike, a helmet, long pants and a long sleeve shirt and a parent to sign a waiver form if they are under 18. All of the $10 race fee collected that day will go to BC Children's Hospital.

This is a double district points race and will be run using the ABA transfer system.

We encourage all riders to get a donation envelope to raise funds for the Race for Life. Awards are given to riders that raise the following amounts:

$10 to $19.99 Certificate
$20 to $ 49.99  Patch
$50 to $99.99  Race for Life T-Shirt
$100 to $499.99  Race for Life Jacket
$500 or over Race fees for Canadian Grand Nationals (Sunday Race) for all classes (open, cruiser and class)

The top fundraiser in British Columbia will receive hotel accommodations at the Chilliwack Coast Hotel (Friday & Saturday nights) and race fees for the Canadian Grand Nationals weekend.

All envelopes must be received back to Vernon BMX by August 2, 2011 to be eligible for awards. Awards will be presented at the Canadian Grand Nationals in Chilliwack.

Tax receipts for donations will be mailed directly from BC Children’s Hospital for all donations received with complete mailing information.

Please see Michele Tepper at the track on race nights for more information.
